After a chance meeting on an airplane, Martina Liana bride, Kimberly, and her husband were destined for their gorgeous romantic, vintage travel wedding. Surrounded by candlelight, Kimberly looked like a vision in her Martina Liana silk organza wedding dress amidst the gold and blush colors of their reception.
From the bride: Dominic and I met on a plane ride from Chicago to Arkansas, where we were living at the time. The only reason we started talking was because he was wearing an Ohio State hoodie, where we both had gone to college (and, of course, because I thought he was cute!). It was in that same hoodie that he proposed to me in November 2013 at the end of the snow-covered dock at my parent’s lake house!
We were married May 16, 2015 in the same church my parents married in 33 years before, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect location. The pews were arranged more in a semi-circle, and while there was no traditional center aisle, the entire church felt so intimate. It was so nice knowing our closest friends and families were right behind us as we were saying our vows. And our venue, The Bluestone, was right next door which made an easy transition into the party!
Since we met on a plane, our wedding theme was romantic vintage travel. We had hundreds of candles around the venue, which is a converted Baptist Church. The soft blush, gold, and black decor and all the candle lights set the mood for a romantic evening. The dancing lasted until midnight, and we headed to the upstairs bar for an after party that went until 2 a.m! We brought in all our favorite nostalgic foods from the Ohio State campus for our reception – we served Buckeye Donuts instead of cake for dessert, and Raising Cane’s chicken fingers and Texas toast was a hit as a late-night snack.
We spent 18 months planning our wedding, and I absolutely loved having the long engagement. It allowed us to have time to soak in being engaged, and plan our wedding without the stress of short deadlines. We were also able to create a lot of the details ourselves – ribbon wands for the reception entrance, the invitations, welcome bags for the hotels, and other decorations for the reception. And it’s amazing how fast those 18 months passed by!
My most memorable part of the day was during our first look when my husband, Dominic, and I saw each other for the first time. The second he turned around, he got so emotional, and we were both just so caught up in the moment. I spun around in my wedding dress for him, and he kept commenting how beautiful I looked. And I felt so beautiful! It was such a special moment that we shared just between the two of us. I will never forget the way he looked at me or the way I felt. I was so happy to be marrying this man, in this dress, and to spend the rest of my life with him!
Our wedding was truly the most beautiful, wonderful, fun and magical day of our lives!
